I started reading this book and it took a little bit to get going BUT, then it got very interesting. From an American point of view, I totally felt bad for Ivan and his family, having to go through so much turmoil. I grew up in the 70's and 80's myself and being an American was so much different. There were times when I was reading that I thought wow, did that really happen over there? It's difficult to imagine how hard it was for his family, but on the bright side they did finally get to the US. The author did a good job telling his tale, it kept my attention. I was really into this story, I wanted to find out what happened next to Ivan. Did he go to college, did he pick a career, did his sister and mother's life get easier? I hope there is another book chronicling the next phase of his life.
